| So you want to live in WELLINGTON |
| DESTINATION PROFILE: WELLINGTON Many people who emigrate to New Zealand do so to escape the rat race. They're fed up with big city life and yearn for wide open spaces. So why choose Wellington, the bustling capital? Probably because it's an excellent compromise. It offers many of the advantages people look for in an emigration destination - better climate, friendlier people, a more laid back atmosphere - but it doesn't feel as though it's in the back of beyond. There's a vibrance to it. There are good job opportunities too, ranging from health care to engineers, tradespeople and accountants. Colin Marchant first visited Wellington in the early 90s and admits he didn't like it very much then. It seemed like a city "past its sell by date". But much has improved in the last two decades and on a more recent visit he could see clearly why many emigrants choose to make Wellington their home. |
